Through the generosity of Perkin Elmer Genetics, Inc., and funding provided by the Save Babies Through Screening Foundation, a limited number of newborn screening packets for additional screening are available each month, free of charge, for pregnant families who qualify.

It is important to check which disorders are currently screened for in your state to see if additional screening is needed.

When Should I Apply for a Free Newborn Screening Packet?

You should apply early in the third trimester (7th month of your pregnancy), or sooner, so there will be time to arrange with your care provider and hospital for a few extra drops of blood to be drawn from your baby’s heel at the same time the routine newborn screening is done. It is important to plan in advance! Hospitals are not necessarily familiar with additional newborn screening.

How do I apply for a free Newborn Screening Packet?

Please send an email to Packets@savebabies.org and include the following information

1. Your full name
2. Postal address
3. Baby’s due date
4. Family history of metabolic disorder (if any)
5. Name of city and state where your baby will be born
6. A simple statement that you are not able to pay for the newborn screening packet
